At the end of every season, the Seawolves hold an awards banquet to honor each swimmer for their hard work in completing a successful season. One of the awards presented at this banquet is the “Nick Contreras Award.” This award is presented to a member of the team whose presence makes it a joy to everyone else to be a member of the Seawolves. 

The award is given out each year in honor of Nick Contreras, a past Seawolves team member who tragically passed away in January of 2011, at the age of thirteen. Nick was the type of kid who just loved being a member of the Seawolves. Nick did not feel that he had to be the best swimmer or that he had to win every race to feel he was a success or be a happy team member. Nick was just as excited to see someone else have success in the pool as he was to achieve it himself. Nick also loved his teammates, he had fun with the younger kids and he admired the older kids. 

Nick loved to take part in team activities, whether it was the team cheer at the beginning of the meet, or any fun day or team social event planned at the pool. For Nick, the competition was not as important as the team bonding and friendships created during the practices, socializing in the team tents during the meets, or other team activities.

For Nick, the Seawolves were like family. From his days as a little boy watching his big brother swim for the Seawolves to the present, watching his nephew of the same name from heaven competing for his team as well, he so loved the Seawolves. This award encourages others to aspire to do the same, be proud of being a member of the Seawolves.
